Book

Can you love someone before you have met them?
Welcome to Pre-Life.
Before you’re born, there are apparently a few things that need sorting out.
You’ll need a name. You’ll need to have your emotions assessed. You’ll need to experience Life (don’t worry, there’s a simulator for that). You’ll need to meet some people. And, eventually, you’ll be given a precise time at which you’re permitted to be born.
It’s all very organised.
Mostly.
The Summer Before I Was Born is an original abstract comedy set in the wonderfully ridiculous world that exists just before life begins, a place of lab coats, clipboards, unnecessary procedures, questionable technology and people taking extremely silly things extremely seriously.
At the centre of all the chaos are two people who meet before either of them has ever lived, raising one rather peculiar question:
Can you love someone before you have met them?
Written and directed by Alan Wood and performed by Scripted Youth Theatre, the play is funny, strange, deliberately absurd and occasionally rather touching.
Don’t worry too much about understanding Pre-Life.
Just enjoy your time there.
