Rhino's Revenge Plays Quo

Book

Rhino’s Revenge is the ‘side band’ of Status Quo’s bass player, John ‘Rhino’ Edwards.

Status Quo’s drummer, Leon Cave, joined the three-piece band in 2023 and Craig Joiner of Romeo’s Daughter completes the line-up on guitar. The band has been busy touring to promote ‘Just Sayin’’, the latest studio album from Edwards, but is now taking to stages across the UK and Europe to perform a unique repertoire of Status Quo songs personally selected by Rhino to celebrate his four decades with the band.

For the serious Quo fan, that makes his personal selection a fascinating prospect because the man choosing these songs isn’t looking at Status Quo from the outside. He is part of its history.

Rhino joined Status Quo in 1986 and has subsequently spent around 40 years as bassist, vocalist, songwriter and one of the great characters of the band. From the era of ‘In The Army Now’ onwards, that unmistakable figure with the flowing hair, huge bass sound and infectious stage presence has become woven into the fabric of Quo itself, appearing on albums and travelling the world as part of one of Britain’s greatest rock ’n’ roll institutions.

This isn’t a tribute band attempting to recreate Status Quo. This is Status Quo from the inside. It is Rhino looking back across almost 40 years inside the band and asking some fascinating questions: What great songs did Quo leave behind? Which album tracks disappeared from the stage? Which songs haven’t been performed for twenty, thirty or even forty years?

Of course, amongst those deep cuts there may well be some monumental Quo moments, but the intention is to travel beyond the predictable greatest hits package.

The performance is being created for the people who bought the albums, turned the records over, studied the sleeves and discovered that there was always far more to Status Quo than the singles. It’s for the fans who still argue about favourite album tracks, who remember songs disappearing from the set decades ago and who occasionally find themselves saying, “I wish Quo would play that one again.”

The hits. The deep cuts. The lost album tracks. The songs Quo left behind. And maybe even the songs they never played at all.
