Kayna Penrose-Toms
Kayna started playing rugby around age 10 years old at Stamford Rugby Club where she was the only girl for a couple of years, but then she had to stop due to there being no girls section. Fast forward 11 years, she was encouraged to join the new and fast-developing women’s section in 2021 by Darren Dolby, who has held multiple roles over the years including club chairman and women’s team manager. Since then, Kayna has had over 50 appearances for Stamford Women’s 1XV and been awarded forward of the season in both 2023 and 2025. During this time, she found out she had bilateral hearing loss and has been supported and encouraged by her coaches throughout and they introduced her to the England Deaf Rugby Union which she joined in January 2024. With EDRU, Kayna has had the opportunity to play international and community games, earning three international caps and touring South Africa in 2024. She is now hoping to tour Japan next year for the World Deaf Rugby 7s Championship!
